Have you ever been stood up by a letting agent?

The letting agent…has just rang. They forgot us. So I’ve re-scheduled them for Friday. Only time will tell if they’ll be here, I know I won’t. That’ll teach them!

What Can You Rent For £7500 Per Week In Hampstead?

October 22nd, 2008 |

Since there are so many visitors who have reached our page via googling “Paris Hilton Hampstead”, I am assuming some of you are interested in knowing more about the home she is renting?

She is reportedly paying £7500 per week for a home in Hampstead.

Hampstead, the area in the North West of London (NW3, London Borough of Camden), is well known for its intellectual, artistic, and literary associations and for the large 3,2m2 park Hampstead Heath. According to a survey, the area is said to have more millionaires within its boundaries than any other area of Britain. Stephen Fry (one of my favourite actors) and Elizabeth Taylor were born in Hampstead.

But what can one rent for £7500 per week in this posh part of London?

We did a quick search in the few UK property portals, and I must say there are very little choice in that price range.

The most expensive house costs £12 000 per week, while the top apartment rents for £8000 per week. Everything else is already a couple of thousand pounds cheaper.

Our search returned just one 5-bedroom duplex apartment in a high security gated development that is in the same price range – £8000 per week. See the ad HERE. This furnished flat has views to Hampstead Heath, benefits from a private leisure complex, numerous terraces and patio areas with secure underground parking.

So that is one example of what you can rent for £7500 per week in Hampstead, London NW3.

It could very well be that Miss Hilton is renting a place that does not come to the “open market” at all. It could be a house or an apartment that was for sale, but was rented out due to the difficult state of the property market. But these are just my speculations.

If you are eager to rent in Hampstead – here are a few links to letting agents with offices in the area:

Behr & Butchoff 5 Holly Hill, London NW3 6QN
Benham & Reeves 51 Heath Street, London NW3 6UG
Foxtons 47 Heath Street, London NW3 6UA
Savills 7 Perrins Court, Heath Street, London NW3 1QS
Hamptons International 21 Heath Street, NW3 1YB

Interesting Tenancy Deposit Protection Case

October 20th, 2008 |

The Landlord Law Blog writes of an interesting case in hand.

A London tenant is bringing a claim against his former landlords and their agents, who took over 5 months into the contract to register the deposit.

Under the UK Housing Law agents or landlord must protect the deposit taken within 14 days from receipt of the deposit from the tenant.

The tenant has filed a claim in West London County Court for 3x the deposit as per law.

Make sure that your deposit is protected!
